News from the Hi-Desert Heat
Upstarts…Newbies…Rookies…Doormats…Wannabe’s… Hi-Desert Heat owner Tom Lewis has heard it all, and then some. In 2012, Lewis took a first year So Cal Coyote team, which came out of nowhere, and captured the Pac West Championship. Lewis also put together the pre-season personnel forming the PCFC 2013 Champion Desert Chiefs. Another first year team…
So what will fans see from the latest version of Lewis’ AAA creations? “Buy a ticket and come find out!” says Lewis, with a smile! There hasn’t been football in the Hi-Desert of Yucca Valley and 29 Palms in several, long years. Athletes had to trek to the Palm Springs area to find a team. But no longer!
We have selected experienced coaches, starting at the top with Head Coach Jim Kieffer. A thirty year resident of Yucca Valley, Coach Kieffer has had the opportunity to coach many of the current Heat roster since they were playing football in grade school. “He knows how to get the most out of his players!” says Lewis. We have on our offense, a very diverse group. We are lucky to have some combat hardened US Marines on our roster as well as former CIF Champion players and a few AAA vets from the area. Guys to watch are: QB Jodi Reavley, RB’s Jimmy Kieffer, Brandon Harshaw and FB AJ Harper are all performing better in each practice! Outside on offense, the Heat will be all over the field. Speedster Mychael Perkins, along with Quade Soffel and Tyrell Powell will sure to be moving the chains. The Heat offensive line is anchored by center Patrick Currier. Also keep your eyes on OL Tommy Watson and OG Brad Young.
On defense, Lewis proudly states, “We have the best defense you’ve NEVER heard of!” But Defensive Line Coach and former Auburn All-American and Green Bay Packer nose tackle Donnie Humphrey laughs and says “but the Pac West will know ‘em at the END of the year!” Watch for MLB Cy Yeager, along with Miguel Beltran and Doobie Dueber to stack up the middle, while CB Melvin Sisk, and FS Daniel Hayes play good solid pass defense.
“The players started calling me this past summer asking for this opportunity. We are untried and untested. But we as a football program want to test ourselves every week. We will not back down, we will play four quarters. We are hard at work up here, away from the “big time”! We are definitely on the right track, and we look forward to hosting the teams from the PacWest!”
